12 Days…

Posted: April 28, 2009 in Misc.

Wow! This may hold the record for longest I’ve gone without blogging! I know I’ve been saying this a lot, but it’s been an insane last week! Finishing up classes, filming a fashion show, traveling to Lexington Kentucky for the weekend among several other things! I promise to catch you all up over the next week as I have a break between Spring Semester and Summer Semester! Be on the lookout for some great posts about what all has been going on!

Thanks for being patient!

Spring Practice

Spring Practice

As you’ve probably noticed I haven’t blogged in a week now! Crazy! This past weekend and week were absolutely insane. I got a total of 6 hours of sleep from Thursday till Sunday night, but it was a great Easter Weekend! I edited more than I’ve edited in months, directed and set-up equipment like I was racing against time (oh wait, I was), directed lighting for an amazing Easter service, filmed another five practices for GT Football and am in the middle of the last two weeks of the Spring Semester at Tech! I promise all of this will be wrapped up in a few posts soon, because they’re are several stories you will want to hear!

Today however I will leave you with a little bit of humor from the week (and I’m blaming this on a lack of sleep). Tuesday was a full day of classes and after lunch I was walking back to class (keep in mind I’ve already been out and about for 4 hours), and I looked down at my feet as I crossed the cross walk to find…..

Yes! Two Different Flip Flops!

Yes! Two Different Flip Flops!

I have finally found time to continue the Sonfest 2009 post started here. It has been an absolutely crazy last few days!

So, we left off with Universal Studios Islands of Adventuer last post….

Following a day in the parks we headed out about 2:30pm and drove back to the hotel. With about two hours till we met again many went swimming, I opted to spend a little time relaxing in the warm sun and talking with good friends! It was beautiful outside (and I must say a huge shocker to come back and it be snowing today!) so we stayed out as long as we could before heading back inside to get ready for evening services. Saturday night everyone was in their official ONEWAY t-shirts and we all met to eat a few slices of pizza and get ready for another night of service!

Saturday Night featured the teaching of Matt Pitt from The Basement! Matt is a phenomenal speaker, definitely the most enjoyable sermon of the weekend. The thing about Matt that really impresses me is not only how on fire he is for God, but how amazingly executed his sermons are! He has a DJ that travels with him and their timing is impeccable! It was great to see so many lives touched yet again. (On a Side Note I was able to watch Matt tonight on-line at his student ministry in Alabama… one of the best Easter Sermons I have ever seen!).

Girls Meeting

Girls Meeting

Following service we all headed upstairs to meet and both Tony and Joy did a wonderful job of really inspiring change and unity within the Student Ministry. After the meeting everyone headed back upstairs where, of course, we had to have another dance party in the hallway! Tonight we had a lot more people get involved and it was a blast! Then it was time to hit the rooms, pack and get ready for an early morning on Sunday!

Cupid Shuffle

Cupid Shuffle

Sunday Morning we woke up and headed down with our luggage. The elevators were packed and the line on our floor alone stretched a good fifty feet back. So we (myself, Chris, Cody, Michael, Robin, Michaela and Hannah) decided to walk down 12 flights of stairs carrying our luggage! It was a ways but we beat the people waiting on the elevator by about twenty minutes! Sunday’s service included… get this… a dance party! So I had to break out my dance skills and show ONEWAY what I had! I have video of this… who knows if it will ever make it on-line 😉 However for your entertainment here is a picture Sandy took of me doing the Cupid Shuffle! Following the dance we went into Praise and Worship, again led by Julian Drive, and then listened to Reggie Dabbs speak. Reggie did a great job of concluding the weekend and challenging everyone to go out and make a difference.

Sunday Morning

Sunday Morning

It was finally time to get back on the road! Making a lunch stop was first on our list, and after an hour we were on the road for good! The first thing everyone wanted to do of course was get a movie playing. However, the back two televisions were not working so of course I hear the “Gordy” (my nickname) coming from the back of the bus. I then get up to diagnose the problem. Someone had set their luggage on the old connectors and the power had been ripped out of the converter. So I attempted to get it back on. In trying however I quickly found out we should have turned off the electricity! I got one of the biggest jolts I’ve had in a while from it! Finally I was able to get it up and running so the back half of the bus was happy!

Tony and Joy

Tony and Joy

After several movies and many rounds of the card game “Mafia” it was time for dinner. We stopped by the Golden Carroll to eat. Of course this was a great way to end the trip, however after getting back on the bus we decided it was time to bring back Old Baldwin Church of God music… and bring it back we did! We had basically the whole bus (minus a few in the back 😉 up and dancing and singing along for a good solid hour! It was sooo much fun and definitely one of the highlights of the trip! It was especially fun for the “old timmers” like me who were at the old church.

Around 10:00pm we rolled back into the church, unloaded the buses and called it a night!

Find Pastor Tony

All in all it was an absolutely wonderful trip. It’s been an uphill battle with the changes at ONEWAY recently, however this weekend really helped to unify everyone and get them on the same page. It was amazing ot see the attitude change in many of the student leaders and I’m excited to see what this does for ONEWAY now and in the future!

Expect more photos and video coming soon!

Awaiting the "Adventure Express"

Awaiting the "Adventure Express"

Suddenly awaken from my sleep by the constant beeping of the cell phone alarm on Friday morning it takes me a few minutes to realize where I am and why I’m waking up at 3AM! “No says I” as the alarm continues to beep, but then I remember the reason for the early wake up call and begin rolling out of bed. The time has arrived to start getting ready for our trip… no.. “Adventure” to Orlando Florida. Making my way to the church by around 4am I assumed my position behind the video camera as students and parents slowly began trickling in.

Adventure Express

Adventure Express

After checking everyone in, eating a quick breakfast and loading the luggage it was time to embark on our endeavor by boarding the “Adventure Express”. Settling down many students quickly fell asleep, however already being awake I spent the morning listening to my ipod, watching movies and working on creative ideas for a video. Around 7am the bus started coming alive as the students began waking up and moving around. Most of the morning involved card games, music, movies and tons of talking! Unfortunately traffic was terrible a couple of times and we didn’t make it into Orlando till almost 4:30 which didn’t leave us time to head to Downtown Disney before Friday Nights Service, so we headed to the hotel and had a bite to eat in their food court.

Service

Service

Friday Night was our first service and it started off with a short “concert”, a few dramas and praise and worship with Julian Drive. Pastor P joined us and I will say it was an amazing sermon. I was impressed by not only the hundreds of lives impacted in the auditorium, but more specifically by the lives transformed in our own group. Being able to see some of the students worship and experience God in a whole new way was powerful.

Service

Service

We were truly able to see God working in amazing ways transforming the lives of individuals and transforming the mindset of the whole group over the course of the weekend. Following service we were able to meet in a group and a few students shared what they had experienced during the evening’s service. After our meeting was a few hours of card playing, and thanks to Robin several girls (my sister Emily included) attempting to learn what I call the “Power Whistle– aka: You know you are being called when you hear it whistle”. A few of the girls were able to get a little chirp out by the end of the night. Following a dance party or two in the Hallway we finally called it a night and headed to bed.

On "The Hulk"

On "The Hulk"

Saturday was Theme Park day and we set out bright and early for Universal Studios Islands of Adventure! We had a large group this time staying together, around 25 of us, and it made the park extremely enjoyable even with the small number of rides we were able to complete. First of course we had to take a ride on “The Hulk”! It was a blast, however this time I wasn’t able to film at all on it because they made me put my camera up! (Note: To see last times filming on the coaster click here).

Spiderman Ride

Spiderman Ride

Following “The Hulk” was a tour of the streets of New York with Spiderman! If you have never experienced this ride be sure to next time, the 3D effects in it are simply breathtaking! It’s almost worth it to ride a second time without the glasses on just to gain an appreciation for the power of technology! We were a little afraid that the villains had taken over the city when the ride was experiencing technical difficulties for a good twenty minutes! Finally though we were able to get on.

Spiderman

Spiderman

Of course next we had to meet the “real” spiderman, although right when we got to the front of the line Spiderman had to “run” for two minutes…. well anyway after he returned we all got into our spidey pose and snapped a quick picture.

We then headed over to the Dueling Dragons roller coaster which is also amazing! The two coasters that challenge each other come within inches (ok, it’s probably more like feet) of each other at several points in the ride!

On the Carrousel

On the Carousel

Of course on the way over we had to make a stop by Seuss land and take a ride on the carousel of Seuss Animals!

Following the Seuss ride we went to our lunch reservation at Mythos, the “#1 Theme Park Restaurant in the World”. It is wonderfully themed, tucked away beneath a waterfall surrounded by rocks and natural light. The food was not as great as California Grill, but was good for actually inside a theme park. All of us ate there for quite a while which unfortunately quickly ate away at our time!

Xmen

Xmen

We headed back to “The Hulk” to try and catch it again, however the line was way to long so we opted for the (I don’t remember the name for it, it was like the Tea Cups), which we rode twice. We also ran into the X-Men people… ok I admit I don’t watch this show/movie so I couldn’t name them if you asked, but here are the “guys” with them. The rest of the time at the park we spent shopping and then headed out at around 2:30pm for the hotel and night two of service.

Join me tomorrow for Part 2 of Sonfest.. including the awesome Saturday Night and Sunday Morning services as well as the “party bus” ride back to Habersham.

I know I promised I would keep up this week with posts, but it’s been yet another crazy one! I haven’t had time to hardly turn around with multiple projects, school, football and getting ready for Sonfest tomorrow morning at 4am! I’m going to try and keep you all updated on Sonfest through the blog, assuming I have a good Internet connection in Orlando. I’m going to also do a nightly video both nights recapping the day. It won’t be much, just a 2-3 minute “melt” as we call it in football. No special effects or treatments, just all the good stuff in one place! So keep your eye out, I’ll also be twittering about it, so if you haven’t yet activated your Twitter Account and started following me, head over there now! My twitter name is blakegadams.

Well off to finish packing and getting camera gear ready! See some of you at 4am tomorrow morning!
