Me and the Alabama Statue of Liberty

Over the past few months I’ve had the opportunity to help Scott Smith design and build a new stage for his Youth Facility over  in Birmingham Alabama. It has been amazing to see something I sketched on a piece of notebook paper back in August finally come to life! It’s also amazing to see God use the talents and gifts of so many people to make this thing take shape!

My sister and I headed down to Metro Church from January 1st till January 3rd to begin the stage redesign process. Of course I had to make my customary stop by the Statue of Liberty Alabama Style! This time we actually got out and took pictures with the statue instead of just stopping on the road.

Working on the Stage

After the brief pit stop we finally made it to Metro Church around 11am. I was surprised to see how much work had already been completed on the stage! The drums had been moved, equipment cleaned off and the cables wrapped! I was afraid we were going to have to do all of that as well!

We immediately got to work because there were tons of things to do! All day Thursday was devoted to getting the drums into place, painting the sound board and walls, bringing in the additional staging and setting the lighting. We stayed till around midnight Thursday working.

Friday Morning we were back at the church by 9am and immediately kicked it into gear.

Friday was devoted to building the screen and wiring up all the equipment in the sound and video booth (a long and tedious job!) Several volunteers spent parts of the day with us to help make the dream a reality. The screen was one of the hardest tasks because the frame had to be built and then the material carefully placed around it! And it’s not cheap stuff!

Putting up the Screen

Finally around 12:30am we were ready to put up the screen! The most exciting part of the build because it was the focal point of the new design! Carefully we moved the screen into place, centered it and secured it into place! Of course we couldn’t stop there so I had to break out the projectors and give it a go! We got one half of the screen working then looked at our clocks and realized it was nearly 2am so we had to stop!

Unfortunately I had to leave early the next morning to head back for a 333 Run through so I wasn’t able to finalize the build. However, the amazing volunteers and workers stepped in and when I returned on Wednesday to help with the first service everything was in place and ready to go!

Check back tomorrow for pictures from the First Service with the new screen!

Also, you WANT TO be at 333 this week! Make plans to attend! It starts at 3:33pm at The Torch Worship Center. Be there and tell everyone you know to be there!
