Archive for January, 2009

I finally got a chance to upload the videos from Origin Bands Trip to Metro Church last Wednesday. Unfortunately the audio got a little distorted on the camera on the louder songs so I only posted the slower songs this time. It is also just a wide angle shot because we didn’t carry our whole Production Crew.

New Ipod

The New Ipod

The New Ipod

I finally used my Best Buy gift card that was part of our Chick-Fil-A Bowl package this weekend! I decided on a brand new, 120GB Video Ipod. I debated forever between the touch and the classic, asked the opinion of several Best Buy workers, and finally storage won out over “coolness”. For $30 less than an 8GB Touch I got a 120GB Classic! That’s 15 times the storage! So anyway I’ve been spending the last few days populating my new ipod with tons of old and new songs! No more listening to the same CD on loop in my car. Got any song suggestions that should be on my ipod?

Send them my way!

A Little TLC

Posted: January 26, 2009 in Misc.

So over the next few days I’m going to try and provide a little Tender Love and Care to the blog. I haven’t had time the last few weeks to really keep it up to date like I usually do! Things have been crazy around here! With 333 in full swing, classes going strong, traveling to Alabama and other things I haven’t had enough time to sit down and write! So I’m going to block some time this week to get a few posts in there.

I’m working on some new 333 videos now, and all I have to say is that if you haven’t been to a 333 Service yet you are missing out! The next one will be this Sunday (February 1st) at 3:33pm at The Torch Worship Center. Make plans to be there!

In Other News:
I’m in the home stretch of college! I am taking four classes this semester, one of which includes my Capstone class which is proving to be a lot of work! After this semester I will have four, that right you can count them on one hand, classes left to complete! Those classes include: Economics, a Humanities Elective and Two Free Electives! That equates to 12 Credit Hours left out of over 126 Credit Hours to Graduate! I am starting to get excited… what’s next? I guess we’ll just have to see!

Origin Band on the Road

Origin Band (333) on Stage at Metro Church

Origin Band (333) on Stage at Metro Church

Yesterday I had the priveldge of traveling with the Origin Band (333) down to Metro Church in Alabama to perform a Praise and Worship service for their Youth Group. I of course was in charge of the production for the night. I left with Jim Baker (our audio director) around 5pm on Tuesday and we arrived around 9pm to start setting up the audio and video systems. Jim brought all of our own equipment from the Sound Board to the wireless stereo in-ear monitors and instruments.

We set up and had it all ready to go by the time the band got there around 11 (don’t get use to it!) and did a quick sound check before heading to the Host Homes. Eric, Blake Jr, Josh and myself stayed at Scott’s house while everyone else stayed at another Host Home.

Wednesday we headed over to the church around 11 to finish sound check. I got all the projectors going and put in the videos and backgrounds while Taneshia put in the lyrics.

We used the two videos we used at 333 this past week, the Ipod Waitin on the World and the Cross Intro, both of which looked fantastic on the rear projected screen! After sound check we headed to eat at Wild Wings and then over to the mall for a few minutes.

We got back to the church around 5pm and did a service runthrough, finalized the staging and finished getting all the production elements in place. The service started at 6:30 with Waitin on the World followed by a welcome by Scott. After the welcome we rolled into the Cross Intro and then into All for Love. Our worship set included:

All for Love
Your Name High
God of this City
All that I Want
The Stand
Praise the Father
Maker of Heaven
Healer

Praise and Worship

Praise and Worship

It was a phenomenal night of praise and worship and it was great having the opportunity to share what God has blessed us with at The Torch and 333 with other churches.

Following the service we struck the stage and loaded up the trailer. We finally got out around 10:30 and I made it back to Atlanta around 1am.

Check back later in the week for videos from the service. I set up a wide shot and recorded stereo feed from the sound board so it should sound really good!

Special Thanks to Abbie Carter, our Photographer, for the pictures! Head over to her site and Check Her Stuff Out!

Also head HERE to check out more pictures!

I recorded the Control Room feed for Training Purposes this week and thought I would share. This is what goes on “upstairs” in the Production Control Room during the services. What you are seeing is the Camera, Graphics, Video Playback and Screens Room. The voice, and person standing in the side right of the screen is me, Directing. I love it! In the center of the Screen is Amanda Hunter and she is the Technical Director who actually listens to me the whole service and switches the shots on screen. Right in front of me is Kimberly Tench who runs the lyrics that appear on the bottom of the screen. Off the Screen to the right is Kylie who runs the Video and Lyrics for the Band and Chris Baker who is the Script Supervisor. Check it out! Scroll Down to the Previous Post for the actual videos from the service.

Waitin on the World to Change

All for Love

This past Sunday was our second installment of 333 at The Torch Worship Center. For those of you who have yet to make it to a 333 Service and are in driving distance, you are missing out! I am continually amazed at how God is using all of the amazing volunteers to create a truly awesome worship enviornment and service everytime! The volunteers are truly remarkable, spending countless hours building sets, re-arranging chairs, setting up lighting, running cameras, editing videos and playing on stage. It takes each and every position to make this service a success and I beileve God has and will continually bless us with remarkable volunteers in each role!

Service and Videos

We started service this week with a basic countdown that then led into an intro video introducing the idea of “Changing the World”.

Immediately following the Changing the World video the band kicked into “Waitin on the World to Change” by John Mayer. For this song I created an Ipod esque video that played on the screens synced with them playing live on stage. We filmed it in front of a Green Screen and then I used After Effects and Adobe Premier Pro to edit the footage into the final product. Paul then made a loop for the video which helps the band stay in sync with the video. Check out both the Live Shots from the Song and the Ipod Video Version:

After “Waitin on the World to Change” we had welcome then hit the “All for Love” intro video and immediatly followed with “All for Love”. It was amazing! See the intro and song here and how both of them mesh so amazingly.

Following “All for Love” we had two more worship songs, Maker of Heaven and Healer. During Maker of Heaven a lighting scene was used which, although not providing ample light for video, created an amazing enviornment in the worship space. Check out both videos  (although Maker of Heaven is mostly a wide shot due to Lighting Conditions).

Following Worship Pastor shared about Purpose.

Check back tomorrow for a unique “Behind the Scenes” Look into what goes on in making all of the Production Aspects take place during a service.

Also more to come this week about the actual Production Process behind the edited videos.

This is just a note to everyone out there within driving distance of The Torch Worship Center… you want to be at 333 this coming Sunday! It is going to be amazing! I won’t go into detail so I don’t spoil any of it for you but come Monday Night expect many great videos to be posted! We’ve spent many many hours creating videos, staging and service planning for it! It’s going to “rock”!

Be There!

Yesterday I blogged about the Stage Design and Construction for Metro Youth in Birmingham Alabama and today I’m finishing up with their first service with the new equipment.

After my Tuesday classes (which by the way I’m only doing Tuesday and Thursday classes this semester!) I headed back to Birmingham to finish the design and also have a meeting with Scott and some of his volunteers to go over the first service. We decided to use the Space Shuttle countdown, which looked absolutely fantastic on the back screen! Following the countdown CJ came in with Your Name High.

I actually ended up running the Lyrics, Backgrounds for the Screen and the Lighting for the service because their normal video guy had been recruited to play drums pre-service. It was crazy! I had one hand on the backgrounds computer changing backgrounds on the stage screen every few lines and then my other hand on the lyrics computer trying to keep up with the songs! I have some crazy respect for lyrics operators, especially on two lines per slide! (Thank you Kimberly, you do fantastic at 333!)

After Your Name High Scott came up and spoke then we had a worship bumper video play on the screens. I’m still impressed by how good the screens ended up looking! CJ then finished the worship set with Solution, Rain Down and Say what you Say

Following Worship Scott came up and devliered an awesome message about change! He actually had three points (Changing, Growing and Reaching) he had hoped to get to, however he get extremely excited and stayed on Changing the whole time! I made a motion video to be on the screens behind him. It had the winter scene fading into a summer scene and then back to a winter scene over and over.  It looked great behind Scott preaching!

It was an awesome service and I believe that the students really bought into the Changing, Growing, Reaching message! I am excited to see what all God has in store for Scott and Metro Youth! I am heading back at the end of January with the Origin Band where they will be having a night of worship with Metro Youth! It should be pretty good! I’ll make sure to take plenty of pictures of that!

Thank you to all of the wonderful workers and volunteers who used their gifts, talents and time to bring this change to Metro Youth! You were all fantastic to work with and I look forward to working with you again soon!
